Local Family Farm
Adventure in Family Farming
Started in 2016, our family farm is locally owned and operated by Jeff & Alysa Flater along with the help of our four amazing boys, located in Wetumpka, AL. We are a new generation of farmers devoted to providing a healthier alternative food choice. We welcome you to join us on this adventure, please feel free to reach out to us anytime.
2016 - Start of the Family Farm
Back in 2016 is when Wildberry Cattle Farm was born. Prior to 2016, our desire was to provide a low cost way to feed our large family. We moved out of the city to a farm in Wetumpka, AL and purchased only a few Black Angus. Overtime, our first round of animals were ready for processing. The first animal to be processed from our farm was taken to Reeds in Claton, AL. The day finally arrived to pickup several hundred pounds of beef we had worked hard to produce just for our family. At this point we have more than enough to feed our family and started sharing it with friends and extended family. The quality was better than any of our friends and family had ever tasted. Shortly, after sharing we were now being asked to provide beef on a regular basis... The beginning of Wildberry Cattle Farm is now underway.
2017 - Selling by the Hanging Weight
This was a learning year for our family farm and we quickly understood the challenges of attempting to explain how to purchase beef by the hanging weight. It became very difficult to explain how much take home beef the customer would receive, how long until the beef would be available, how much would it actual cost. During this learning experience, we decided to find alternative ways to offer local beef to our customers. This led us to an amazing local family owned and operated USDA processor in Dothan, AL, which we still use today.
2018 - Our First Farmers Market
This was an exciting year for the family farm, we are now able to offer USDA processed beef by the cut and attending our first ever farmers market in Prattville, AL. The market was a huge success we sold more beef this year than ever before in a shorter amount of time. We quickly started planning our expansion to other markets in order to reach more customers more often...
2019 - Expanding Farmers Markets
Our first expansion into other Markets was the Montgomery Curb Market in Montgomery AL. We had a permanent booth setup all year-round to sell beef by the cut. This booth was open every Saturday and occasional during the week. The farm was several pounds of beef each week. Interesting fact, during our time at this market, one of our customers suggested we should offer a farm share in order to supply a regular share of beef.
Our second expansion into other Markets was the Farmers Market at Eastchase in Montgomery AL. This is a busy market and typically operations during the long summer months. During the peak season, we operated this market at the same time as the Montgomery Curb Market. By this time we were selling tons of steak and continuing to stock pile ground beef. To solve this problem, we started offering the famous Wildberry Specials - Ribeye special, Porterhouse special, Sirloin special, and Chuck roast special. This new approach helped reduce the piles of ground beef.
Given all the expansion into new markets, we still maintained a booth at the seasonal Prattville farmers market. All the family and some friends now were involved in maintain all three markets, we even found a job for the little one. Although we were selling a great deal of beef both individually and specials the ground beef was still slowly piling up. Toward the end of farmers market season we started offering the Farm to Table Beef Delivered to your front Door! The option started to grow in popularity with our customer base so much we decided to close down our permanent booth at the Montgomery Curb Market and focus our attention toward the win/win.
2020 - Focusing on the Farm Share
Over the years, we have grown a lot as a family farm and our primary mission is to offer the farm share all year round. However, you can still find us at local farmers markets during the summer, just not as many as before. We look forward to you joining our farm share program in order to provide the best quality local beef on a regular basis for you and your family to enjoy.
2021 - Expand Farm Capabilities
Last year has lead to high growth and opportunity to expand our farm operations to support the increasing number of valued Farm Share members. New found growth has all the family hard at work to improve our cattle handling capabilities and overall safety in continue to provide the local community with quality beef. We are excited about the challenges this year will bring and all the new faces we personally meet on our expanding delivery route.
